Visual Test
The symptoms of Meares-Irlen Syndrome are:
-
The feeling that the page is too bright or glaring
- The letters appear to move or blur
- Shapes or rivers appear through the text
The symptoms of Meares-Irlen Syndrome can be alleviated by changing the colour of the page and below is an experiment for you to try.
1.
Look at the 2 passages of text, and ask yourself if any of the listed symptoms are present

2.

Even if everything appears OK (and especially if you have a reading problem) change the background colour by clicking on the dropdown menu above the second paragraph.
3. Go through each of the colours and select your favourite
4. Compare with and without colour – which do you prefer?
Please note that this visual test is only for example purposes and my not achieve the same results as using text on a piece of paper. The brightness settings, quality and appearance on a computer monitor can also cause bluring. It must be said that this distortion can also be present for people with binocular problems and so a full examination by ourselves is recommended.
